Why The Maori People?
We chose the Maori people as our subjects of exploration mainly because of our fascination towards the Haka, which is the chant and dance done in rugby games. However, as we researched this group to a deeper level, we realized that they have a rich cultural history, one still present in modern day society. They established a unique society along with their own languages, traditions, and mythology. What suprised us the most about the Maori people was their will to carry on. The European colonization in the 18th century did not deter them from living their lives the way they had done so for generations, and that love for their culture is so strong that it was remained into the 21st century regardless of ourside forces fighting to deter it.
The knowledge questions that arose while discussing this indigenous group were "to what extent has their culture influenced modern day society?" and "to what extent do indigenous people convey their beliefs through language?" In regards to the first question, the traditions of the Maori people has embedded itself in modern society. As one of the links stated, rugby players, when victorious, begin chanting and dancing the Haka even though may aren't Maori descent or speak the language. This has influenced many people to enjoy that celebration. As an answer to the second knowledge question, we believe that the Maori people value their beliefs to a great extent as seen through the incorporation of the Haka in their daily lives (an example of Haka poem is linked in the home page).
Their culture is just as important as our cultures since it is what makes us unique and allows us to embrace the people we are and what roots we come from. Indigenous knowledge matters because every single culture has something to offer, the Maori being no exception, and these different pespectives on life allow us to become more open minded individuals capable of accepting those for who they are.

explanation of choices, such as organization, images, colors, text types/fonts, style, etc.
We used a lot of visual elements such as pictures to help the reader of the website guide themselves through what they wanted to read and what called the attention the most.
We chose green for the background of the website beause we thought that it would reflect the Maori as a tribe itself.
We decided to have an atmosphere of jungle and nature, because it’s where they live and we also because New Zealand is really famous for their landscapes.
The pictures we used are mainly of their tatoos and faces because that was it characterize them. Also because those kind of pictures about them are really impressive.
We see the maori also as elegance, mainly because of the All Blacks’ team which they are really organized, elegant.. all in black.
